The Highest and Lowest Property Taxes in Colorado

Colorado homeowners pay some of the most expensive property taxes in the country, according to a new Zillow analysis. In fact, Colorado, New Jersey and New York property taxes are up to five times more expensive than the national average of $2,823 per year.

In 2012, the average single-family homeowner in Pitkin County paid $10,182 in property taxes, the highest in Colorado. The area is best-known for its popular Aspen ski resorts, which draw wealthy celebrities and executives.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, homeowners in Routt County, approximately 165 miles north of Pitkin, pay the least expensive property taxes in Colorado, averaging $711 annually.
