Homeowners in Travis County pay the highest property taxes in Texas, according to a recent Zillow analysis.
In 2012, residents in Travis County - home to Austin, one of the fastest-growing cities in the country - paid average annual property tax bills of $6,438 on single-family homes, compared with the national average of $2,823.
Approximately 220 miles northwest, Taylor County has the lowest property taxes in the state, with residents there paying $2,010 per year, on average.
