Residents of Marin County pay the highest property taxes in the state of California, according to a recent Zillow analysis. The county is situated on the west coast, north of the Golden Gate Bridge.
The average single-family homeowner in Marin County paid a property tax bills of $8,434 in 2012.
Nearly 400 miles northeast of San Francisco, Modoc County - with only one incorporated city, Altruas - is known as "the last best place." Homeowners there pay an average of $1,019 in annual property taxes, the lowest amount in California.
