In the first-ever Zillow Digs Design Awards we pitted four home designs, from different regions of the U.S., against each other across five different categories.

Each of the 20 designs below — selected in voting across the South, West, Northeast and Midwest — received the most votes on Zillow Digs during the month of August. Did your favorite home designs prevail?

Kitchen

You named the transitional design of Midwestern entry No. 4 the top kitchen of the year. Michael Abraham Architecture's Lake Geneva Basswood Project earned 33 percent of your votes. The space sets a stylish and welcoming environment with its sleek and lengthy kitchen island, country-style light fixture, bright seating area and mid-century, floor-to-ceiling windows. The close runner up was Southern entry No. 1 by Heather Scott Home & Design with 26 percent of the votes.

Living Room

Votes were heated in the living room category but Western entry No. 2 by Aria Design took the prize. The Rockledge Project claimed 30 percent of your votes with its modern, open layout and natural-toned furnishings paired with the waterfront view. Another favorite was Southern design No. 1 by Marc-Michaels Interior Design with 29 percent of your votes.

Bedroom

Nearly half your votes (43 percent) in the bedroom category went to Northeastern style No. 3 by Rajni Alex Interior Design. The Jacobs Bedroom Project is an eclectic look with soothing tones and luxury features such as the naturally-lit window seat and bold, oversized headboard.

Bathroom

Your votes favored two leading bathrooms, but design No. 3 from the Northeast pulled ahead with 31 percent of your votes. The Church Project by Claire Paquin of Clean Design highlights both traditional and contemporary elements for a balanced transitional style. The space sparkles with its tile and glass finishes including a frameless shower, glass-front cabinets, windows, mirrors, a chandelier and tiled flooring and walls. Close behind was Southern style No. 1 by Alana Villanueva of Avid Associates with 27 percent of the votes.

Patio/Deck

The standout patio for the year was Northeastern style No. 3 by Tracy Davis of Urban Dwellings. The Private Coastline Residence Project took 43 percent of the votes. The space features stunning scenery and luxury features including lounge chairs, poolside towels and glowing lanterns.
