In the first ever Zillow Digs Design Awards we pitted home designs against each other across five different categories, and you voted these designs best in the West.
Each of the 20 home designs received the most digs, or popularity votes, on Zillow Digs during the month of August. Your top selections made it to this regional polling round. Did your favorite home designs from the West prevail?
All five winners advanced to the national competition for head-to-head battles against your favorite South, Northeast and Midwest designs. Your votes determined the year's top designs for kitchen, living room, bedroom, bathroom and patio spaces.
Kitchen
More than half of your votes (51 percent) advanced design No. 1 by Garrison Hullinger Interior Designs into the lead. However, design No. 2 was just shy, earning 43 percent of the votes. The contemporary look with stark white working spaces, pendant lights above functional islands, glass-front cabinets and hardwood floors appeal across the board.
Living Room
All four living rooms flaunt stunning views, but two primarily caught your attention - and they couldn't be more different. Your votes favored design No. 1 by Aria Design, Inc., that included a sleek modern style with low-slung furniture, an open layout and earth-toned finishings. Barely trailing behind was the rustic design No. 2 by Slifer Designs.
Bedroom
It was a close race in the bedroom category, but the mid-century modern style No. 2, by Giulietti Schouten Architects, took the win with 31 percent of the votes. The space, dominated by floor-to-ceiling windows, tied interiors back to nature with basic furnishings of metal and wood with subtle, white bedding. Design No. 3 fell just short with 28 percent of votes.
Bathroom
Your votes led a fierce competition in the bathroom category. The winner, design No. 2, barely advanced to the next round with 41 percent of the votes. Design No. 3 held 40 percent. The winning Palm Design Group's bathroom features crisp glass throughout, with a vast desert view, frameless shower and large over-the-counter mirror. The modern look incorporates a statement piece and a shimmering, geometric side table, but all other accents blend with the exterior landscape.
Patio/Deck
Design No. 1 stole the show, earning 37 percent of your votes. Kari Whitman Interiors created an intimate outdoor space with plenty of seating for guests around a tiled fire pit. The deck's adjoining dining area pops with polished, contemporary design.
