Situated on the southeastern side of the state's peninsula, Palm Beach County, home to the city of West Palm Beach, is the wealthiest county in Florida. Single-family homeowners there paid an average tax bill of $4,949 in 2012.

On the opposite side of the state, Jackson County borders both Georgia and Alabama. The historic city of Marianna, nicknamed "the City of Southern Charm," is the county seat.
